- > Well, I have had quite a different experience (thus far) with DKB
- Cobra/Ferret. I have had an Expansion Systems SCSI+ for many months on
- my otherwise bone-stock 1200. When I decided to upgrade to an
- accellerator board, I chose the DKB Cobra 28 MHz because it had a SCSI
- option, and was reasonably priced. I planned to use the SCSI option in
- the future to boot from (can't boot from SCSI+).
-
- The accellerator works fine (except on some demos) and cannot be
- disabled (except by removing it). So far so good... However, the SCSI+
- does not work with the Cobra. Attempting to mount any SCSI harddrive
- results in "task held" situation.
-
- O.K., So DKB and Expansion Systems both threw in the towel on this,
- citing the noise on the SCSI+ cable (picked up from the Cobra).
- Fine, out with the SCSI+ and in with the Ferret (for another $90 U.S.).
-
- Well, so far NO LUCK with the Ferret/Cobra combination. I have three
- different drive types (all of which worked fine for months on the SCSI+
- before Cobra). What happens with the Ferret is random corrupt RDBs, and
- if you BOOT, any drive that was formatted using the Ferret disappears
- from the screen (not mounted). There is no way to mount them again !
- This is supposed to happen automatically, and it does on drive formatted
- with the SCSI+. The Ferret seems happy with them until it corrupts the
- RDB.
-
- I have sent the board back to DKB for analysis. Spoke to Jerry in
- Tech Support. He was going to check it out and return it with the latest
- (completely revamped) software. I got the card back, but they forgot to
- send me the software. I have NO software now to operate this card. I
- will be calling them this week again to try to get it.
-
- What version of the Ferret software do you have, Paul ? Jerry told me
- that my board was old and that the software (Toolbox) was obsolete, and
- something else is distributed now with the Ferret. What do you have ?
